April Favorites!

Is April already coming to a close? Goodness gracious, it feels like yesterday I was drafting March's favorites. But here I am, bringing you my top ten items for the month of April. Let's get started.

1. Kate Spade Cutout Earrings

When I'm not wearing my pearls, which if you know me is always, I love these earrings. Most of my stuff is gold so these have encouraged me to incorporate more silver into my wardrobe. They're casual but can also be dressed up (Hmm where have we heard that one? Every post of mine ever?).

2. Rue La La

If you look at my recent conversations with my fellow blogger and great friend Justina (COAF), this is about what the entire thing looks like

Etc., etc., and so forth. I’m obsessed with the flash sale site Rue La La. With sales daily at 11AM ranging from all kinds of top-notch brands, I love shopping with Rue La La and finding the best deals I can.

3. North Face Fleece Pullover

Lexington’s weather has been nothing new lately, and by that I mean it’s different practically everyday. Classic Lexington. But on the chillier days, you don’t want to bundle up with your thick coat. My black fleece North Face pullover has been a lifesaver in our recent days with lower temps. It’s super lightweight and SO SOFT but still keeps me warm.

4. Old Navy Tortoise Flip Flops

For a girl with no Jacks, I’ve been making the most out of sandal weather. I got these at the Old Navy outlet while in Hilton Head because classic me, I forgot to pack sandals. As much as I love tortoise, these are perfect and super versatile. I wear them all the time with the recent warmer weather and they go with anything from jeans to a dress.

5. Lana Del Rey

I’m always on the hunt to find good new music, and I had definitely heard of Lana. But when my friend Aaron recommended her for me to listen to, I was hooked. I’ve bought all her albums on iTunes and I’m so excited for Ultraviolence to come out in about a month or so. The Born To Die album is my current favorite.

6. Bean Boots

What? Bean boots in April? Oh yes. With all the rain I’ve been trying to give my Kate Spade rain boots a break and wear these new babies. I ordered them in February and they came in right before I left for break. My L.L.Bean 8" boots fit so well, very true to their guide, and the water-resistance makes them perfect rain boots. So very worth the wait.

7. Lilly Pulitzer Summer Collection

I look forward to this every year, and this year is no exception. With fun new prints like Lobstah Roll, Jellies Be Jammin, and Sea Soiree, this season brings lots of bright colors and summer vibes to last all the way to August. Lilly Pulitzer is on point this season and I can't wait to see what else they come up with for the warm summer months.

8. Ray Ban Wayfayer Glasses

My Snapchat friends love me, they really do

I'm just going to go ahead and say it: I AM PRACTICALLY BLIND. So blind. To the point where with no aid I can't make out faces an arms length away. It's bad. And on my days when I don't want to put contacts in (like today), my Ray Ban frames are perfect. Wayfayer style anything is my favorite and these glasses give almost a hipster vibe and still let me see.

9. "What Would Blair Waldorf Do" Pencils

{Like this photo on Instagram}

Gossip Girl is more than just another young adult drama show, it's taught myself and my friends many valuable lessons from Queen B(lair) and Serena. Blair is a role model and an icon and these pencils from one of my favorite shops The Carbon Crusader on Etsy (in pink and mint) are perfect. The only thing better would be if Gossip Girl came back on the air...

10. Mean Girls

I feel like this is necessary given that today (April 30) is the 10th anniversary of Mean Girls. Mean Girls came out on Netflix this weekend allowing every high school girl to relive their favorite quotes. Yes, it is Wednesday, and yes, I am wearing pink.

And now we look forward to May, full of Derby and spring weather and one month closer to the end of the school year. I've got lots planned and I can't wait to see what else is in store.

And we're off to the races!

When you grow up a Kentucky girl, horse racing is in your blood. We get all dressed up at a young age and hop in the car, drive past the fields of green grass and horses, and go to Keeneland. There’s just an air about this 78-year-old racetrack that we Lexingtonians love. It exudes Southern class, from the blooming spring trees to nearly everyone dressed to the nines in their best race day attire. I’ve loved watching the horses since I was little, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to appreciate the class and style of it. It’s more than a just racetrack, it’s a place where people meet and become friends. It gives us something to look forward to on the weekends. But back to dressing up. Taking a hint from the Derby, it is traditional to dress in your Southern best to go to Keeneland. My friends and I spend hours the nights before we go trying to piece together the perfect ensemble over text and curling our hair. And today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite Keeneland outfits.

(Me in Blue) I wore this to go to Keeneland's opening weekend right after I got back from Spring Break. The dress is one of my favorites and my new Kate Spade bag got some use. I accessorized with my gold watch and my classic pearls.

From L to R: My friends Meredith, (me), Claire, and Lexi

I went with a crew of girls I dance with and we had a blast. Opening weekend is always so much fun and we got to watch some great races. Who says you have to be of age to have to have fun at Keeneland?

With my friend Emily {Like this photo on Instagram}

This past Saturday I went to Keeneland with the same girls and some of their friends who are now mine. We had a blast as I played tour guide the whole time, seeing as I'm the only one of us who knows my way around Keeneland.

We try, we really do
I spent this trip with my best friend Meredith, fellow blogger Justina (see her blog here!), my friend Erin, and our new friend Maddie. We had a great time walking around and meeting up with friends and watching all the great races.

I also went with my parents and my sister Avery this time. Avery hasn't been in a while and she had a great time. She even won a little bit of money!

With Emily yet again {Like this photo on Instagram}
I wore one of my favorite dresses, a mint-ish green cap sleeve dress with a white lace front panel. Pairing it with nude pumps, my nude Coach wristlet, and classic pearls gave an effortless look for a day at the races.

As we round out this racing season, I look forward to Derby in two weeks. While dance yearly prevents me from going, I never miss watching the race. And oh do I love the fashion of it. But I'll hold out till fall meet season to get my fix at the races.

April Showers

So sorry I've been MIA! I was in recovery from break this week had a huge dance competition this weekend with little time to write. But don't worry loves, I am here, writing on this rainy Monday (yes you're reading this on Tuesday hush) night. As we all know it is April, and we all know what April brings. I've been inspired by the month of rain to put together some outfits on my new Polyvore account that are perfect for rain. Let's check them out.

This outfit is my favorite mainly because I own almost all of it. I live in my Marley Lilly rain jacket on rainy days and rely on my trusty Kate Spade boots and Lilly umbrella to keep me dry. I've been lusting over anything Longchamp and this coin purse is adorable

Let me start this by saying that I LOVE red Hunter boots! While I don't own a pair, I love the look of them. A color like red you wouldn't think would be as versatile as it is, but my Pinterest could probably tell you otherwise. I've always had a thing for white jackets, and this one from North Face will keep you dry all day. Damask is my favorite (non-Lilly) print, especially in black and white, and this umbrella is so cute. Baseball hats are a staple of mine recently, and the monogram makes this one.

And in this set we learn how bad I am at laying out Polyvores. But I do love this one. Kelly green has been a favorite of mine since I was young, and this coat is so cute. The striped umbrella brings a pop of print and the black rain boots add some neutral simplicity. Everyone knows I love tortoise, and these sunglasses are reminiscent of Audrey in my favorite movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.

I'm going to try to reboot my posting regularity soon. I've got some great stuff planned for y'all in the coming months and I can't wait. But for now, I'll be out splashing in the puddles.

Hilton Head Day 3

Last full day here :( . None of us want to leave but we have to get home to cheer on our cats and get back to normal life. Today consisted of shopping and swimming and lounging and more. Let's check it out.

We got up early to go to the outlets as a family. Characteristically I forgot to take pictures but I had a great time and got some cute stuff, notably a white Kate Spade cross body, a Polo Ralph Lauren hat, and some J. Crew shorts.

I was hesitant to get in the sun today since I was stupid and got some bad burns yesterday (judge me), but after the sun went behind the building, I was out and in the pool. Avery and I played with Raegan and enjoyed the warm weather.

Eventually we all decided to head down to the beach and enjoy our last full day. Raegan played in the sand and made a few tiny sand castles. Being down on the water got me all nostalgic about my days playing for hours here with my cousins growing up. There's a lot of Atlantic coast, but none like Hilton Head.

What I Wore: Polo Ralph Lauren hat, Southern Shirt Co. shirt, Lilly Pulitzer croakies, Target top and bottom, Old Navy flip flops

We're hitting the road tomorrow morning early enough to get home and watch our cats play in the Final Four (!!!). I've had such a great time and I'll miss it, but it's time to come back to the reality of dance, school, and life. How have your breaks been?

Spring Break Days 1 & 2

Oh how this Hilton Head weather brings a pleasant change from semi-blizzard this weekend, and I'm loving it. Our first two days here have been great spending time with our cousin and grandparents. Pool time and dinner and beaches and more, let's check in on what's been going on here.

Day 1

After doing quite some damage at The Men's Store by Joseph in Savannah, we rode a half hour to the island. We made a pit stop at Piggly Wiggly for new t-shirts and at Hilton Head's spirit jersey retailer, Jamaican Me Crazy, where Avery and I both got spirit jerseys. We then came home, got cleaned up, and went to Marley's. Much of the night consisted of walking/being led around the restaurant by my two-year-old cousin Raegan who lovingly calls me "Icky".

We played on the ring toss for about ten minutes and enjoyed ice cream from the attached ice cream shop. Avery and I both got watermelon (in true Beyoncé spirit of course) which was delicious.

I been eatin', watahmelon?

Came back to the resort, took my OOTD pics, unpacked, and went to bed.

What I wore: White 3/4 sleeve lace-front top, mint anchor shorts, tortoise sandals, all from Old Navy

Day 2

Today started off with a few hours at the pool laying out and playing with my two-year-old cousin Raegan (her mom blogs too!). She is the sweetest thing and since I rarely get to see her this week has been a treat.

The weather has been great here. Sunny and 75 all day with that beautiful Hilton Head breeze. I wish the water was a little warmer down at the beach but c'est la vie when you go to the beach in April. After about fifteen minutes of ring toss and rides around the pool with Raegan, I was back on the chair drying off and laying out.

Remember those spirit jerseys? Well both Avery and I got one and we're absolutely in love. I've never seen children's sizes and even after making fun of my "obsession" Avery had to get one.

Dinner consisted of The Crazy Crab in Harbour Town, another one of my favorites from growing up. Because it's just been a busy day, I of course forgot to take pictures. But our dinner was great and the hush puppies were gone in minutes.

S/O to my grandmother for taking my
OOTD pics!

Put my hair into an easy French twist with my tortoise clip

To dinner- White top, navy shorts, tortoise sandals, all Old Navy

Have any of you done anything fun on your break so far? Let me know below!

Hilton Head Island: Top Five!

Happy Spring Break! Although I wasn't at school Thursday or Friday, my break officially began Monday. Today my sister and I flew down to Savannah, spent most of the day there, then drove about a half hour out to my favorite vacation spot growing up: Hilton Head Island. If you haven't been, Hilton Head is an island just off the coast of South Carolina. From before I was even one up until I started dancing competitively, we spent at least a week there every year with cousins and my immediate family and grandparents and more. I haven't been since spring break of a few years ago, and even so I know it like I left yesterday.

Artsy since '09

With a place like Hilton Head, you find your regular spots; you find the restaurants you love and the sights to see and the shops to visit. My family has quite a few of these special places that we frequent whenever we go. I’ll share a few of them with you

1. Salty Dog Café

Chances are, even if you haven’t been, you’ve heard of Salty Dog. That famous logo is on everything from shirts to mugs to towels and more. The restaurant itself is great, and we make sure to visit every time we go.

2. Hilton Head’s Lighthouse

The classic red-and-white-striped lighthouse is the landmark of Hilton Head, gracing any and all merchandise. It’s a great visit, nestled in the midst of shops and golf courses, and is worth the climb. 114 stairs are worth it for the beautiful view of the island.

3. Marley’s

My sister on our last visit

Possibly my favorite Hilton Head restaurant. A Jamaican vibe and great food makes this a great family spot. We try to go at least once whenever we go to Hilton Head and I know it well. The ice cream shop just outside is possibly the best part with a great atmosphere and great music. I’ll be going tonight!

4. The beach, obviously

Another 2009 throwback

I grew up on this beach. Going every summer gave me something to look forward to every year with my cousins (who are practically my brothers). Laced with all kinds of shells, the beaches in Hilton Head are great from sunrise to sunset, and boy is it a beautiful sunset.

5. Old Oyster Factory

Missing out on this one on this trip (they went without us last night; conceal don’t feel) but it’s always a favorite, and not just because of the great seafood selection. The location is beautiful, settled just on the shore with a beautiful view of the water.

Any of you been to Hilton Head? Do you have your favorite spots? Let me know in the comments below, and if you haven’t been tell me about your spring break!
