May Favorites!

Guys. It’s the end of May. Which means only two things, the first being that I have one week left of my freshman year of high school. It’s been a whirlwind but I have loved every second of it (big, reflective post to come). And of course, the end of another month means time for another edition of my monthly favorites. Here we go.

1. Francesca’s Earrings

Oh I wish I could find the link for these, because I am in love. My grandmother got me these lovely earring for Easter and I’ve worn them a ton. They remind me of the Kendra Scott statement earrings I’ve been lusting over, with the gold lining and opal-esque stones. Statement earrings are one of my new favorite pieces and I hope to incorporate them more into my outfits.

2. Low Charcoal Chuck Taylors

Random Side Note: Absolutely love all the clovers that pop up during springtime. This
was taken outside my school and just shows how many we get here in KY. I love it!

One of my immediate thoughts when writing this post was to include my Jack Rogers, but y’all have heard enough about those. My grey Converse are my go-to on the days where it’s a little cold or rainy out and my Jacks would not be appropriate. They’re so versatile, especially with a neutral like grey, and I wear them for just about any occasion. These are my third fourth pair of Converse, and I know I’ll continue to buy them.

3. Lilly Pulitzer’s Shape Up or Ship Out

But really have you seen this print? Because it is perfection. This nautical print is trés bon for the summer with anchors, rope, and bubbles. The light blue, navy, and white combination is so cute and could go with a lot of pops of bright colors. It’s my new monogrammed desktop background!

4. The Great Gatsby Kate Spade Notebook

Anyone who knows me (or follows me on Pinterest for that matter) knows that my obsession with The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and pretty much anything from the 1920s is strong. When I saw this $14 notebook on Kate Spade, I knew I needed it. I love notebooks, and I love filling them up with everything from school notes to doodles to quotes. This 112-page, college ruled notebook is perfect for me.

5. Silver Monogrammed Pendant

Just ask my mom, what’s the one thing I’ve been wanting for the longest time? A monogrammed necklace. So imagine my surprise when I found a silver monogrammed pendant I’ve apparently had for years. I’ve been making the most of my new discovery and wearing it all the time.

6. TweetDeleter

If you’re like me and you’ve had a Twitter for a long time (fifth grade in my case), you have quite a lot of old tweets. I set out to find a service where I could mass delete my tweets by time. TweetDeleter.com did just that. When I deleted everything before late December of 2013, I was left with this:

It was great to clear out everything and make my Twitter account more current and less clutter-filled. Follow me here!

7. Passionfruit eos

As I said in my What's in my Purse post, I love all of my eos lip balms. This purple one is my current favorite. I got it in a gift bag from Mer back in February and I use it all the time. The smell/taste is so great and it's perfect when I need lip moisture in a pinch.

8. Stila Smudge Crayon Waterproof Eye Primer + Shadow + Liner

Well isn't that a mouthful. I stole borrowed this shadow stick from my mom and I'm in love. The champagne color is beautiful and super blendable. It stays all day like the name ensues and is waterproof, but is easy to take off with any basic makeup remover. This shadow is perfect for daily use and super easy to glide on your lids. Here I'm wearing it as a basic everyday shadow with elf Cream Liner in Coffee with benefit They're Real Mascara on top and Sephora brand Brown Mascara on the bottom.

9. Diet Snapple Peach Tea Powder Mix.

I'm on the go a lot, as y'all know, and sometime's it's hard to take a glass bottle of my favorite Snapple with me. These to-go packets are perfect for school, dance, or days like this weekend when I haven't had a chance to get tea at the store. They taste just like the real thing and are perfect in a pinch.

10. Iggy Azalea

Everyone has heard Iggy's smash hit "Fancy (feat. Charli XCX)" by this point. It's a great summer hit and the video is even better. The rest of her "The New Classic" album is just as good, featuring all kinds of summer jams. Her collaboration with Ariana Grande on Problem is great as well.

One week. I have one week left of my freshman year. May has flown by so fast, but we all know summer will pass us by even faster. So stick around, because I'll be making the most of it.

Dress Well, Test Well: Tough and Topknotted

Part two! I'm actually loving this series; it's motivated me to dress better on stressful test days and has given me a lot more confidence. This will be part two of three outfits and one hair tutorial (oh we're getting adventurous aren't we, Courtney?) and I'm excited to share the rest with you.

The Limited Top (similar) // American Eagle Jacket (similar)
American Eagle Jeans // Old Navy Sandals
Kate Spade Earrings // Engraved Monogram Necklace (similar) //Silver Chain Necklace (similar)

Okay so I seriously love this outfit. It has the perfect combination of girly and tough. The white jacket is, contrary to a classic moto jacket, made from cotton and is almost like linen. It gives a soft edge to the tougher look and is good to take on and off when needed while changing from classroom to classroom for tests. I used a pop of color in the purple tank to break up the white-and-denim blah. Classic straight jeans and sandals were the way to go for comfort while sitting around during exams.

Now here's where it gets fun. I could not decide which necklace to wear! So what do I do? I put on the classic monogram for school and decide to show you both here. The chain adds more of a tough girl look which is perfect for this while the monogram is more subtle. Pair either with some simple silver earrings and throw your hair in a topnot to keep it out of your face during tests and you're good to go.

And now for my testing tip of the day. I thought I would share with you my overall testing strategy. I always start with the written part. Always. It helps me get into the test and gets the hardest part over with. I then go on to multiple choice, answering all the questions I really know. After that I go back and reanswer all the other questions that I either struggled on or the answer was a little harder to find. This ensures that I don't use my valuable time struggling on questions when I have many more to complete.

That's all for today! I shot this post by myself again, and I'm really starting to get the hang of it. I'll see you for a new DWTW on Monday!

Dress Well, Test Well: Cream + Green

Hey y'all! So if you're like me, you've got finals coming up. And while we've all heard the expression "dress well, test well," many people (myself included) stick to the tee-shirt-and-norts routine. But I've started to believe this saying holds true. So over the next few days I'm going to be showing you my testing outfits that are comfy enough to take all those scantrons in but also look cute. Here we go.

So casual, but so cute.

"Is it focused?" she shouts to herself and prays for the best.

The jewels.

How pretty is the lace detailing?

Joe Fresh Tank (similar) // American Eagle Jeans
Francesca's Sweater (similar) // Lucky Brand Flats
Fossil Watch // Crystal Earrings (similar)

I love this look and its simplicity. The green sweater adds a pop of color and keeps me warm in my always-cold school. Comfy flats are a must along with simple jeans and gold jewelry.

I've decided to accompany each of these posts with a testing tip. My first one: eat. We all hear that we should get a good breakfast, but I think it's just as important beforehand. Nothing is more distracting than being hungry during a test, and a quick granola bar beforehand is just the solution.

Okay this post is a bit of a milestone. The shoot for this post is the very first shoot I have done solely by myself with no help from my mom. I took every picture in this, that's probably why there's so many. So yeah, pretty excited and the tripod is my new best friend. Celebratory selfie because why not?

Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day all! This weekend has been such a great break from the stress of school. My first year of high school has been a whirlwind and I cannot believe I only have two weeks left. It's been a great year, but you'll hear more about that later.

I've tried to make the most of this lovely three-day weekend; seeing friends and family, using the pool, and making up for all the sleep I don't get during the week. Let me share some of my weekend with you.

On Saturday I slept in until 11 but stayed in bed for another hour talking to Meredith on FaceTime. I came downstairs to find my whole family working on the outside of our house. We've only lived here about 3 1/2 months, and while the inside has gotten lots of work, the outside needed some love. Avery and I had fun helping where we could and playing in the yard.

And of course ex-gymnast Avery spent all her time doing this.

As soon as Meredith came over we headed straight for the pool. It was an absolutely perfect day and the pool was deserted, so we had it practically all to ourselves.

Mer had to leave to babysit, but came back to spend the night around midnight. We stayed up late watching Clueless and crashed afterwards.

Sunday morning, this happened.

But as soon as she got up, we headed straight for The Coffee Pub, a local breakfast place walking distance from my house that we always go to on the weekends. They have such great food and such a great atmosphere that keeps us coming back with friends in tow.

She's beautiful.

The vanilla milkshakes are always great, served in tall, fifties-style glasses.

I got the Belgian Waffle with bacon and strawberries which was fantastic.

Our server was named, and could easily pass for, Hans...

We made the most of our free time together and went to go see Meredith's grandparents who live in my neighborhood. They were so sweet and we had a great time. Unfortunately, it was time for Mer to leave and we parted as if we wouldn't be seeing each other approximately 24 hours later at rehearsal. One mason jar tea and three episodes of 90210 later, my friend Sydney came over to spend the night.

We grilled out with my parents and enjoyed fresh cut watermelon (which consisted of lots of Beyoncé singing) and s'mores. We were up past two chatting with my parents and listening to music, but eventually we crashed. Hard.

Today (Monday) we woke up to donuts and more watermelon, followed by another trip to the pool.

The weather was absolutely perfect and everyone was out to enjoy the sun and their Memorial Day. I say perfectly situated in the shade to avoid burning my porcelain skin.

I ended my lovely weekend with a 4-hour rehearsal and studying for a test. It's back to reality for two more weeks and then, after my dance recital, I am free to see what this summer will bring.

What's In My Purse

Hey y'all! So I was stuck last night trying to come up with what to blog about today. I turned to one of my favorite YouTubers, Sarah Belle, for a bit of inspiration. One of her latest videos was showing what was in her bag at the end of the school year, and while I think this is better expressed in videos, I thought I'd give it a shot. I actually just switched over my purses for the spring/summer, so I'll show what I had in both of those bags.

Before last week, I was carrying a Coach Madison Kimberly Carryall in the Chesnut color. I picked it out before school started and have carried it all this year. It has lots of space and pockets for me to put everything.

And as of last week, I've been carrying my mom's black and white Coach bag. It has less room but carries everything I need.

I've always been one for big purses, I grew up going to the Outlets with my family and drooling over their bags. And they're perfect for a girl like me who carries a lot. Case in point, let's see what all I carry in my bag. Here's an overview of everything.

Yeah, it's a lot. I've had it been called a suitcase, a briefcase, a Mary Poppins/Hermione Granger bag, the likes. But everything in here I need, I promise. Let me highlight my top things in this bag.

1. Lilly Pulitzer Agenda

Umm, duh. I don't know what I'd do without my Lilly agenda. I fill it out every school day with all my class assignments. I have the smallest size in Tiger Lilly and hope to get the larger size for my sophomore year.

2. Coach Wallet

Whether it's holding gift cards, receipts, my MetroCard, anything, I love my black Coach wallet. I;ve had it for a year and a half and it's in such great shape.

3. eos

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have one of these in every flavor. They're so handy and really help moisturize my lips in a pinch.

4. Empty packs of gum

Because I go through way too much gum in one day.

5. Sunglasses with Lilly Croakies

I can't live without sunglasses, and my Lilly Pulitzer croakies in Tiger Lilly are perfect.

6. And then there's this...

Trash, random makeup, a SSCo sticker (?). Oops.

7. And finally

My life in one phone.

I don't know what I'd do without this bag at my side. Whether it's Advil, band-aids, or one of the fourteen random bobby pins in the bottom of my bag, I can always count on it.
